A description of the tour
We like to begin as early as 6:00 a.m. to catch the birds when they are at their most active. Generally we let the first to book on a given date choose the start time for that day. The walk is mostly flat and requires you to be on your feet for four or five hours. It begins in Aguas Calientes on the access road to Machu Picchu (20+min.), there it turns off onto a path along the railroad tracks, which we follow for the rest of the morning. We often end up at the Mandor Reserve, where we have the option to enter and visit the waterfall. Mandor was also, incidentally, Highram Bingham's base for his exploration of Machu Picchu. If you feel for any reason that you are not suited to a mixed group, or would like to do things differently than the standard tour, we can arrange for a private guide for the day.
